Nursing home resident killed in multi-vehicle crash

On Behalf of | Feb 24, 2024 | Wrongful Death |

When a Texas family makes the tough decision to place a loved one in a nursing home, they expect their loved one to be cared for in every way possible. On some occasions, a nursing home may need to transport a resident to medical appointments or other places, which means the facility is responsible for keeping the person safe during the outing. Sadly, a recent accident involving a nursing home transport vehicle was involved in a multi-vehicle crash, which led to the death of a resident.

What caused the accident?

The crash happened in the early morning on U.S. 96 in Sabine County. The nursing home was transporting a resident in the facility’s van when the crash occurred. Authorities believe that low visibility due to thick smoke from a previous tractor-trailer crash may have caused the accident.

The death of the nursing home resident will likely leave the family questioning what happened in the moments leading up to the crash and wondering if it could have been prevented. If authorities determine that driver negligence caused the accident, charges could follow. Negligence may also lead the family to take civil action against the negligent driver.

Death due to negligence

Driver negligence contributes to many fatal accidents in Texas each year. These accidents leave families in mourning after losing a loved one in such an unexpected manner. Families should be aware of their rights in pursuing a civil lawsuit against the negligent driver. While financial compensation cannot bring back a loved one, it can help a family recover monetary losses that are often associated with a fatal accident.
