Teen killed in tragic accident after stepping off school bus

On Behalf of | Dec 13, 2023 | Wrongful Death |

Children throughout the nation ride school buses to and from school each day. Like other states, Texas has laws in place to protect children when they are getting on and off the bus. These laws are supposed to allow children to safely cross roads without the concern of being struck by a vehicle. When drivers don’t follow these laws, tragic accidents can happen. After a horrible accident just north of Livingston, a 15-year-old boy lost his life, and his family and community are in mourning.

A tragic accident

When parents send their children off to school, they expect them to make it home safely at the end of the day. Sadly, for a family in East Texas, a loved one’s life was taken too soon when the young man was killed in an accident after he stepped off the school bus on a Thursday evening. The 15-year-old was struck by a tractor-trailer and succumbed to his injuries.

As of this time, details surrounding the events leading up to the accident are not available. Police will continue to investigate to determine what happened. If they believe the truck driver acted negligently, criminal charges may be filed.

Legal help after a wrongful death

Losing a young person in an unexpected accident leaves a family devastated. Once the initial shock wears off, the family may wish to seek justice for their loved one in the form of a civil lawsuit. When someone is killed due to another’s negligence, the family has the option to file a wrongful death lawsuit to seek compensation for their loss. By speaking with a Texas personal injury attorney, families can better understand their rights.
