A woman has sadly lost her life in a hit-and-run car crash in Carrolton. Five children have also been injured in the wreck. Police are now searching for the driver who reportedly caused the fatal crash in Texas.
Events leading up to the collision
The recent car accident took place on a Monday night. According to authorities, a male car driver was going down the street at a high rate of speed, possibly due to street racing. All of a sudden, the car reportedly struck a minivan carrying a mother and multiple children.
Police reported that the car driver then fled the accident scene. However, they are taking steps to bring the man into custody. The mother who was driving the van was pronounced deceased at the crash scene. Meanwhile, five children in the van were injured and were taken to a medical center for treatment, with two remaining in the hospital. Police said the roadway was wet from rain at the time of the wreck.
Legal recourse for victims of these tragedies
Police may end up locating and arresting the man who caused the deadly collision. In this situation, the surviving loved ones of the woman who died in the crash may opt to file a wrongful death claim against him, seeking the reimbursement of financial damages sustained in the crash. Likewise, personal injury claims may be filed against him on behalf of the children who were injured in the collision. If the man is criminally charged and convicted in connection with the accident, proof of the conviction may be presented in a Texas civil court to help establish his liability for the crash. Successfully litigated claims may lead to monetary damage awards to cover losses stemming from the accident, such as burial costs and hospital expenses.
