Street racing accident injures Uber driver

On Behalf of | Mar 10, 2018 | Car Accidents |

Ride-share services such as Uber and Lyft not only make it easier for people in San Antonio to get to where they need to be, but they also offer local residents the chance to make a few extra dollars on top of their regular jobs. Of course, working as a driver brings with it certain risks, the chief among those being an increased risk of being in a car accident due to the added time spent on the road. Uber does offer some insurance protection (depending on where a driver was in relation to transporting a fare), yet securing insurance reimbursement in a ride-share accident can often be a tricky proposition.

A man Missouri man nonetheless is going to have to attempt it after he was recently injured in a high-speed collision. His van was among many affected when a driver reported to be street racing struck another vehicle and caused a chain reaction. The driver responsible was reported to be going so fast that the impact of his vehicle supposedly was felt in an adjacent building. The injured man was working as an Uber driver at the time of the accident. Another injury was reported, yet it is unclear whether or not it was sustained by one of his passengers.

The insurance offered through Uber is supplemental coverage, and is only available when one is driving with the app on. In this case, the driver was reportedly working, so he would be available for such coverage should it be needed. Other cases may not be so clear. Those needing to fight to secure insurance coverage in an Uber or Lyft accident may want to enlist the services of an experienced attorney.
