Family claims airline's failure led to woman's death

It may be easy for some to hear news of wrongful death lawsuits filed in San Antonio and simply dismiss them as the petty and vindictive actions of people looking to profit on what most would classify as unfortunate situations. Yet two relevant points are lost in this assumption. The first is that the accidents or incidents that produce wrongful death lawsuits often leave the families of victims facing enormous expenses from medical bills and the loss of financial support. The second is that without the actions (or inactions) of the accused negligent parties, the victims in these cases might very well still be alive.

Such is the assertion being made by the family of an elderly woman after she fell down an escalator in her motorized wheelchair in an Oregon airport. The woman was returning from a vacation in Hawaii, a trip she had made numerous times before. On each of those previous trips, her family claims that their requests to have airline personnel provide the woman with gate-to-gate assistance had always been respected. In this case, however, the person who escorted her off the airplane left her to reach her connecting flight on her own.  Video surveillance shows her wandering through the terminal alone, eventually reaching the escalator where she fell. Her resulting injuries eventually led to her death three months later, and left her family with medical expenses totaling more than $300,000.

In cases such as these, it may be easy to see why the family members of victims become so upset regarding the circumstances that contributed to their loved ones' deaths. Those who feel justified in initiating a wrongful death lawsuit when such negligence occurs may find a personal injury attorney to be a valuable ally.
