Multi-car accident leaves 6 dead

On Behalf of | Jan 14, 2023 | Car Accidents |

When a driver in Texas chooses to disregard the laws of the road, they put others at risk. Speeding, not passing other cars in a safe manner, and driving erratically can cause a serious accident. Sadly, negligent driving often leads to fatal car crashes. A recent accident near George West left six people dead and several others injured.

Details of the crash

The accident happened on a Friday evening on U.S. Highway 59. A minivan driven by a 39-year-old woman attempted to pass another vehicle in a no-passing zone. The van collided head-on with an SUV in the northbound lane. After the initial collision, a sedan rear-ended the wrecked SUV. The driver of the minivan and the minor passenger both perished in the accident.

The driver of the SUV, a 47-year-old male, and two of the SUV’s passengers were also killed in the accident. A passenger in the sedan also succumbed to their injuries. Five others were hospitalized because of their injuries. The police don’t believe any of the drivers were intoxicated but further investigations may reveal exactly what happened.

Accident victims’ families have rights

Losing a loved one in a motor vehicle accident is understandably traumatic, especially if the family feels that a negligent driver caused the accident. When the negligent driver also passes away in the accident, the family may be able to sue the driver’s estate for compensation. While these funds will not bring back a lost family member, they can help with the unexpected expenses related to a sudden death in a motor vehicle crash. A personal injury attorney can provide Texas victims and their families with information on pursuing a case against the person at fault.
