On Behalf of | Dec 23, 2022 | Wrongful Death |

Encountering an intoxicated driver is a risk when anyone is driving on Texas roadways. Intoxicated drivers can cause serious crashes, leading to injuries to themselves, their passengers and other people in or near the road. Sadly, many times, these accidents prove fatal due to the severity of the crash. A teenager from Jasper is facing serious charges because of a recent accident he was involved in with his friends.

Accident with multiple fatalities

This crash happened on South First Street in Lufkin. It was around midnight when the 17-year-old driver of a Honda sedan made an abrupt lane change. He drove into the path of a Ford Bronco and was rear-ended. The impact of the crash caused the Honda to come to rest in the median. No one in the Honda, including the driver or the six passengers, was wearing their seatbelt.

Three of the passengers in the Honda died at the scene of the crash. Three others were hospitalized, two of those with critical injuries. The driver of the Ford was not injured in the accident. The teenager driving the Honda was treated, released, and arrested on charges of intoxication manslaughter.

Where to turn for help after an accident

Young drivers often make poor decisions while driving and these decisions can be deadly to themselves and others on the roadways. Accident victims or their surviving family members have the right to file a civil lawsuit against the driver at fault when there are injuries or fatalities in a motor vehicle accident. A Texas personal injury attorney can provide guidance for victims and families to help them navigate the legal system based on the specifics of their case.
