Addressing the topic of insurance coverage in rideshare accidents

On Behalf of | Aug 11, 2022 | Car Accidents |

Rideshare companies continue to grow in popularity, and there may be a multitude of scenarios in which you might choose to make use of such services. Even if you own a motor vehicle, sometimes it might simply be easier to sit back, relax and let someone else drive you to and from your daily destinations.

However, there may still be some concerns with using rideshare services, and if a collision occurs on Texas roads, you could suffer severe harm in the process. Knowing the requirements for insurance coverage among rideshare companies could help you better understand your options should disaster strike.

Coverage requirements

While rideshare companies such as Uber and Lyft may provide insurance coverage for drivers and their passengers, there may be some stipulations in this regard, some of which may include:

  • Status of the app: With the two most popular rideshare companies, insurance coverage types and amounts may vary, depending on the status of the app and whether it shows that a driver is on the way to pick you up or if you are already inside the vehicle.
  • Liability coverage: These companies may provide their drivers with liability coverage for third parties, and this coverage may include bodily injury or damage to your property.
  • UM and UIM: If the driver of another vehicle causes the crash, but does not have sufficient insurance coverage, the rideshare company may also provide coverage via uninsured or underinsured insurance policies.
  • Rideshare coverage: There are also a variety of insurance companies that may offer coverage options to rideshare drivers who might not work for a name brand company or who choose to seek additional coverage.

While these policies might provide certain levels of coverage should a rideshare accident occur, dealing with an insurance company after suffering serious injuries might not always prove a simple task.

Assistance in the process

If a rideshare accident leaves you with serious injuries, you could be left facing extensive medical bills and a long road to recovery. Since it might not always be feasible to expect insurance companies to have your best interests in mind, it could be helpful to consider seeking guidance in preparing to protect your interests. Such a decision could help alleviate some of the stress of the process and help place you in a better position to seek the compensation you deserve and approach your recovery with peace of mind.
