A man’s life has sadly been lost after being struck by a motor vehicle in Austin. The accident took place at around midnight on a recent Monday. Authorities reported that the incident was a homicide, and they were therefore investigating it from this angle.
How the accident occurred
The tragic pedestrian collision occurred along a street close to Interstate 35. According to police, a 37-year-old man was driving a car and purposely ran over a second man in an apartment building’s parking lot. The accident reportedly occurred after the second man had disparaged the driver during a Father’s Day get-together at the lake.
Although the 37-year-old man’s car struck and killed the other man, the victim was allegedly able to move his girlfriend away from the car’s path before being hit. Following the accident, the driver reportedly attempted to quickly escape the scene. However, civilian witnesses allegedly restrained him. He now faces a murder charge, and his bond has been set to $1 million.
Legal recourse may be available following the tragedy
The surviving loved ones of the man who passed away in the pedestrian accident may opt to file a wrongful death claim against the driver, seeking the reimbursement of monetary damages sustained in the crash. If they are able to establish liability before the Texas civil court hearing the case, then a judge will determine their claim for damages. A damage award may help to cover the deceased man’s burial costs as well as the loss of support for any surviving dependents he may have.
