Street racing can threaten innocent lives

On Behalf of | Sep 25, 2020 | Car Accidents |

Driving can be a dangerous endeavor, especially if other people on the road disregard the law and safety of others. Street racing may seem exciting in the movies, but it is extremely dangerous and against the law for good reason. When people treat the roads like their personal playground, innocent people can be seriously injured or killed. A recent crash in Texas illustrates the danger of this behavior.

According to reports, two vehicles were engaged in an illegal street race. Police reports indicate that at least one of the vehicles was traveling in excess of 100 mph. The driver of this speeding vehicle slammed into a pickup truck operated by a gentleman that was not involved in the street race. Police have specified that the victim was innocent of any wrongdoing.

The victim suffered serious injury as a result of the crash. Unfortunately, he passed away as a direct result. The driver that slammed into his truck only suffered minor injuries. He now faces felony charges, including death caused by racing. The driver of the second racing car turned himself in later, and it is unclear at this time if he will be charged with a crime.

When a person suffers serious injury or death as a result of a crash in Texas, there may be legal recourse available. If a victim is deceased, representatives of a victim’s estate can seek justice on his or her behalf. Successful civil action may result in a verdict or settlement that can help compensate a victim or a victim’s loved ones for the suffering the victim endured at the hands of another party. Monetary compensation can help with outstanding medical bills, final expenses and other financial burdens that can stack up after a crash. A person interested in taking legal action against a driver at fault may want to consider contacting an experienced attorney for some professional and compassionate assistance with the legal process.
