If a Texas collision injury results in disfigurement

On Behalf of | Sep 23, 2020 | Car Accidents, Injuries |

You may have been commuting to or from work or driving to your favorite pub to meet some friends for supper when the accident occurred. Perhaps, you were just going grocery shopping when another vehicle slammed into yours. The results of such incidents are often devastating, long lasting or even permanent. Perhaps, you’re one of many recovering accident victims in Texas who have had trouble sleeping or have suffered from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder following the crash that left you seriously injured.

You hopefully were able to receive medical attention as soon as possible in the aftermath of the collision. If, after doctors and other medical team members diagnose and help treat your injuries, you are left with a permanent disability or disfigurement, the road to recovery may be long and arduous.

Learning that your body has suffered permanently because of the force of impact in a motor vehicle collision can be highly emotionally traumatic. This is why it is important to know where to seek emotional as well as physical support following a collision that has resulted in severe injuries.

Ask questions until you clearly understand your condition

If you suffered a back injury that has affected your ability to stand or walk or a facial or head injury that has resulted in disfigurement, the better understanding you have about your prognosis, the more proactive you can be as you navigate recovery. For instance, it’s a good idea to discuss issues with your medical team such as whether surgery is available to help minimize a disfigurement or whether physical therapy or other rehabilitative treatments could possibly help you regain use of your legs.

Many injuries and disfigurements are permanent, in which case, speaking with others who have gone through similar experiences may help you find healing and encouragement as you strive to achieve the greatest quality of life possible under the circumstances.

Building a strong support network from the start is helpful

When your life has changed in an instant because of another driver’s negligence or reckless behavior behind the wheel, you may not only have physical pain and injuries to cope with but also emotional trauma, frustration or anger. Especially if investigators determine that the collision was likely preventable were it not for an irresponsible choice the other driver made or his or her negligence, it can be difficult to process your emotions and regain peace of mind knowing that another person’s needless actions caused you permanent suffering.

In such situations, tapping into local resources for support can be tremendously helpful. In addition to relying on close friends and family members for support, your medical team, licensed counselors and legal advocates can also have significant roles in your recovery. Your community might have support groups for accident victims who have suffered serious injuries. It’s always best to reach out for support rather than trying to cope with collision-related issues on your own.
