Biography

Matt learned the importance of hard work from an early age. Matt’s father, a local custom home builder, had him working in the San Antonio summer heat from the age of 13. “It was tough, but it’s fulfilling getting to see someone move into their new home and say, ‘I had something to do with that. That wall is up because of me.’

After graduating from Boerne High School, Matt went on to the University of Texas at Austin, where he studied Government, with the intention of going on to law school. After graduation Matt returned to San Antonio to attend St. Mary’s University School of Law, where he excelled.

While at St. Mary’s, Matt was the captain of his Mock Trial team and earned honors at competitions all over the country. At the same time his respect for the hard-working people of San Antonio was renewed while working on the editorial board for The Scholar, St. Mary’s Law Review on Race and Social justice, and as a teaching assistant for the St. Mary’s pro bono legal clinic. “At the clinic, I saw how so many families struggle paycheck to paycheck, and how one emergency can set a family back a year or more. At the same time, I was editing for The Scholar, seeing how so many of these problems are structural and people can’t always overcome them alone.”

After graduation, Matt went to work for the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office, where he tried numerous cases ranging from domestic violence to aggravated and sexual assault. “There is no better feeling than seeing a victim of a terrible crime receive justice,” Matt said.

Matt has brought that same sense of justice to the Gámez Law Firm. After the District Attorney’s Office, Matt spent time as a defense attorney handling insurance cases. “When you deal with insurance adjusters every day, you realize that they don’t always see car crash victims as people, but just claims to be handled,” he emphasized. “At this firm, we care about our clients. You’ll never hear a voicemail when you call in, and if you want to speak to an attorney, you will. No matter your background, or how much money you have, we are going to work just as hard for you. That’s the kind of lawyer I would want, and it’s the kind of lawyers we are.”

In 2022 Matt has successfully settled a number of high-value cases, including three commercial trucking cases with combined settlements of over $2.3 million.
